The Happiness Project (in Club Med Bintan?)

I just came back from a holiday in Club Med Bintan. Was supposed to start on the book 'The Happiness Project' but did not managed to do so - too much (food, activities, conversations) occupied me for the last few days.

There's no pictures yet (I did not take a lot anyway) and I really want to share a conversation I had with a G.O.

Was talking to a G.O. from Philippines last night - nice chap who came to talk to me when YK went to the dance floor :) There's a lot of human touch in Club Med - not really me because I really don't like to talk that much but definitely interesting. He came across as very talented - rock singer, water sports/extreme sport athlete. I remember we talked about diving - he can dive but doesn't have a licence because it's too expensive. And what came to my mind was: so many singaporeans just take diving lessons for fun, get a licence and add it to our collection of papers. Maybe dive once or twice a year. It's like we take too many things for granted - some of the many things that we can achieve easily in Singapore could be a luxury for many others.

Back to 'The Happiness Project' - does this make us happy? I don't know.

Am I happy? Yes, I think so. I am contented with what I have in life. But...am I really happy? Could I be happier? When was the last time I felt really happy (or really sad)? When was the last time I shed tears of joy? And tears of sorrow? When was the last time my heart beat with so much excitement that I thought it was going to jump out from my mouth? And my heart beat with so much pain that I thought it was going to die. I cannot remember and it's kind of scary - it's like I am in so much control of my life that I forget to carpe diem (to seize the moment) or diem carpe (if it can be translated like this, to let the moment seize me)?

I'm going to start on 'The Happiness Project' book soon - will it make me happy or happier? I don't know. But it's worth a try.

And to the G.O., thank you for the conversation - it really set me thinking. I hope you get a diving licence soon (somehow I got the feeling it's not something you really want because I am sure you will achieve what you want if you set your heart to it). G.O.! :)

Voyage Night Festival 2011

We visited many museums when we were in Italy and Paris in March. I was amused that we needed to book tickets in advance to visit the museums and there were so many visitors. In some museums, like the Vatican City, it was so crowded that you just moved along with the guide and get pushed along by visitors. I really hope that one day, the museums in Singapore will be like those in Europe - so vibrant and sought-after. Perhaps that inspired me to volunteer for the Voyage Night Festival 2011 so I can contribute in some ways.  For me, it was a different experience, a voyage of some kind to see our museums transformed at night ...

Hard Rock Hotel Singapore

Stayed at Hard Rock Hotel Singapore last Thursday - it's a business-pleasure staycation. I want to go back for a real fun staycation because it is a very cool hotel to chill a few days away :)

What a personal touch :)

A guitar and a drum in the toilet

Very comfortable bed. I wish I had more time to laze.

Disco. Disco. Disco.

The bed couch. I love this. But I did not have time to enjoy it. Will do so in Club Med Bintan next week!

Bedroom slippers will never be the same again.

Club21 Bazaar at the F1 Pit Building

Went to the Club21 Bazaar at the F1 Pit Building twice -  once on the friday (I happened to be on leave for detal appointment and I did not have much time to shop) and once on the saturday. Best buys - 2 pairs of Calvin Klein shoes for $60 (original price was $200/300+)!

Good to know that the F1 Pit building is used for other purposes other than the annual grand prix. It's always a good feeling to pass it during runs.

Black, croc-skin texture pumps. Wore it once. Nice and really hard. Hope it will soften over time.

ilovelongvacation

I was inspired to start a new blog in wordpress to share my travel tales - ilovelongvacation recently. Come to think of it, it's quite funny because I started to spend more time in this blog instead :P Gonna try to keep both blogs going :)

手机的照片- Redhill Food Centre

Went to Redhill Food Centre after a Business Chinese test nearby. Been thinking about the food there since the MJ session at G's place. Had a mixed char siew/roasted pork noodle and ice kachang - cheap and good. Sat in front of a bakery - very tempted to get a sweet custard bun (shaped like a horn) but was too full. Amazed at how a bakery can operate in a small stall and the variety of bread/bun and the 古早feel.

手机的照片 - Island Creamery

Went with GT to Island Creamery at Serene Centre after the Tennis Finals of the CPA Games 2011 at CCAB. It's been a long time since I last went to Serene Centre (more than 10 years) since my old NJC days. It used to be a place where we went for MacDonalds after HB practice on saturdays and sometimes after school if we knocked off early. Now there's Island Creamery (which I have heard of for a while but was too lazy to go try) as well a few other restaurants. I'm sure many other things have changed in Bukit Timah and I'm so going to try to spend a saturday there one day (for good old times' sake :))

Customers can plug in their memory cards, print a photo and stick it on the walls of Island Creamery. Sweet way to remember the sweets. I like this idea. I'm sure many of the kids from the schools in the area like it too! :)

I cannot remember the flavour. Think it's chocolcate with chocolate chips. Very sweet. Very rich. Cost only $3.80 which is ok for me (kids must be getting a bigger pocket money these days :P)

手机的照片- H&M

H&M is finally in Singapore! Located in between Mandarin Gallery and 313 Somerset.

There was still a QUEUE when I passed by last saturday, so I decided to skip and go back another day.
For some reasons, I like H&M :) Here's a jacket I got from H&M in Paris.

Dark green jacket, tapering hemline (short at the back) with no collars. On sale - 20EUR only :)

手机的照片 - 香港的云吞面

突然心血来潮,想把手机里的照片上载到BLOG。

这张是老朋友MQ最近重游香港, watsapp 的。让我想起了大伙30岁的旅行 :)

Wanton noodles in Hong Kong - nice, springly. Cannot remember the name of the shop but it was right behind Prudential Hotel in Jordan.
